Presentation by John VK2EKG on the ultimate Radio Direction Finding (RDF) activity.

A radiosonde is a small device attached to a weather balloon that measures conditions high in the atmosphere.

  • It records temperature, humidity, pressure, and wind
  • Sends data back to Earth as it rises (up to ~30 km)

In Australia, the Bureau of Meteorology launches radiosondes twice daily from cities like Sydney and Melbourne.

👉 They’re mainly used to improve weather forecasts and storm prediction.

Following is a couple of photos of John VK2EKG giving his presentation on the radiosonde device attached to weather balloons, that measures conditions high in the atmosphere. His presentation was well received with some attendees now making their own radiosonde trackers. Se our WhatsApp group chat for more details.
