The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) is proposing to change the amateur radio service from the current "apparartus licence" to a "class licence".

In this topsy, turvy world we live in, the only constant is change – and it is no different for Amateur Radio in Australia. The ACMA recently went on a public consultation spree regarding amateur radio addressing topics including:
  1. The proposed, new Class Licence Framework
  2. Proposed new qualifications framework
  3. Proposed new examination service framework
  4. Fees for service Cost Recovery Implementation Statement, and
  5. Satellite filing procedures.
Cameron McKay, VK2RA, a member of SGARS, formally responded to each of these items as part of the recent ACMA public consultation processes (currently under review by the ACMA) and will be presenting the proposed changes and his opinions on the benefits to the amateur radio while also highlighting some of the upcoming challenges and potential future opportunities at the St George Amateur Radio Society’s next gathering to be held on Wednesday 1st November 2023 at the Kyle Bay Sea Scouts Hall, Donnelly Park, Connells Point. The doors open at 7:30pm and both members and guests are welcome to attend. Afterwards members and visitors can have a chat and partake in the Tea, Coffee, biscuits, and cake. For those who wish to come by public transport, take the 953 bus from Hurstville train station.

Details about all of the Society’s repeaters, along with the Society’s other activities, are on the website, www.sgars.org.
